Welcome!

Wingate, Kearney & Cullen, LLP combines two of New York's oldest firms: Wingate & Cullen, founded in 1864 in Brooklyn, and Hurley, Kearney & Lane founded in 1892. The Firm has always emphasized dedication to both the client and the community and continues to do so. It has a rich heritage, having represented the Brooklyn Diocese for over a hundred years, and former Brooklyn institutions such as the Brooklyn Dodgers, Charles Ebbetts, the Brooklyn Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, and Kings County Buick. It has given a former Corporation Counsel to the City of New York, two former Surrogates, and one current Surrogate to public service. Wingate High School in Brooklyn is named after one of its founding partners. The members of the Firm routinely serve on charitable boards and committees.

It maintains long-term relationships with many of its clients. For example, it has represented Citibank in commercial closings since 1926, Heartshare Human Services of New York since 1913, and Saint John’s Cemetery since 1892.

The Firm’s clientele consists of individuals, small businesses, charitable organizations, religious institutions, financial services institutions, and corporate clients in the areas of estate planning, trust and estate administration, elder law, real estate transactions, labor law, discrimination law, religious and charitable organizations law, cemetery law, corporate law, commercial transactions, contract litigation, family law matters, negligence litigation and Appellate Practice.

The Firm achieves this diversity while maintaining its tradition of high ethical standards and professional practice. The Firm’s attorneys focus primarily on selected areas, but are sufficiently versed in other areas to assist one another on complex matters. The Firm strives to provide a close personal working relationship with its clients, maintaining affordable fees that are the hallmark of a small firm. Our attorneys have a well-earned reputation for providing high-quality representation, while working in a well-organized and professional manner.

Technology is a welcome core aspect of the Firm’s practice. Our use of technology allows us to handle matters quickly, efficiently and effectively for our clients. It also enables us to maintain an electronic library to meet a research need. We have the capability of exchanging and transmitting data and information electronically with clients and Federal and State Courts. We can also provide our clients with computer-generated reports to monitor the status of their case. Despite the use of technology, a one-on-one relationship with our client is the keystone of our case strategy.
